Jump Headfirst into Reading Season

Fall is in full swing!

When the leaves turn vibrant shades of orange, red, and gold, it’s no secret that we’re entering prime reading season. The air is crisp and chilly outside, the unmistakable scent of pumpkin spice wafts through the atmosphere, and our TBR piles are growing taller than ever. It’s the perfect time to cozy up with a good book and let our imaginations roam free.

As we embrace the cozy months of fall and winter, we find ourselves drawn to not only new titles but also to beloved comfort reads that provide warmth and nostalgia. There’s something truly magical about curling up in your favorite reading nook, wrapped in a soft blanket, sipping on a steaming cup of hot chocolate, and diving into the pages of a story that transports you to another world. Whether you’re exploring new adventures or revisiting familiar ones, the joy of reading during this season is unparalleled.

With the days growing shorter and the evenings turning darker, there’s no better time to indulge in the art of reading. Perhaps you’ll discover a new author whose work captivates you, or you might choose to revisit a classic that has long been waiting on your shelf. There’s a comforting routine in finding that perfect spot by the window, watching the leaves fall, and losing yourself in a captivating narrative.

To help you navigate through the delightful literary landscape this season, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite sweater season reads. Every title in this list is unique from the others! These books promise to sweep you off your feet and provide the perfect escape as the world outside transforms into a spooky paradise. Get ready to cozy up and dive into stories that warm the heart and spark the imagination!

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

It feels wrong starting this list off with anything else. Although Northanger Abbey isn't exactly a Halloween read, it encapsulates all those fall feels perfectly!

Jane Austen killed it with this novel. She pokes fun at original Gothic works and adds the perfect amount of spooky for readers who love this season, but want to fall asleep at night.

This book truly has everything. Satire, villains, and romance. Even though it's a classic, it is so difficult to put down!

Spookily Yours by Jennifer Chipman

This book probably could not be more different than the last, but it still makes my heart melt. Perfectly quirky and cutesy, it's one of those books that you can read in one sitting.

I won't lie, some parts of this made me scratch my head (like how the MMC was cursed to be a cat before he was turned back by a cute witch).

Nevertheless, the town, vibes, and romance made me swoon over and over again. Also, for my spice lovers, it has a fair amount of sultry scenes nestled in the sweetness. The best way to describe Spookily Yours is absolutely magical!

Hollow by Karina Halle

If you're looking for a sweet read, this is definitely not the one for you. However, if you want sweltering chemistry with a gothic flair, pick this up! As the first book in the A Gothic Shade of Romance series, Karina Halle retells the story of Sleepy Hollow, which we all know and love.

Think dark academia, forbidden romance, and witchcraft. This book has it all. It's definitely worth picking up this spooky season!

Grimstone by Sophie Lark

This is one hell of a book. I don't even know if I love it or hate it, so obviously I had to include it on my list. Dark, raunchy, and confusing are the words that come to my mind when I think about what happens in this.

Yes, there is romance, but the parallel plot to that is genuinely so good too. I saw a lot of character development and healing happen throughout the story and I'd love to hear how you all feel about it!

Most importantly, don't forget to check the trigger warnings!

Fall Into Temptation by Lucy Score

SOOOO many people reccomended this book to me and I just recently got around to reading it! For a fluffy romance book, it actually had a lot more depth than I thought it would. Reading this, I sensed a lot of grief and heartache, both of which were very evident in the plot.

This is one of those reads that I sat down and devoured the entire thing. I loved the characters so much that I was furious at them sometimes. Lucy Score has a writing style that is incredibly entertaining to me, so I will definitely be diving in to more of her books!

This is a pretty spicy one, so keep that in mind if you decide to pick it up!

Zodiac Academy by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

If you love fantasy as much as I do, you'll go insane over this series! I'll admit, it is a time commitment, but these books draw you in with magic, mischief, and scalding romance. I tend to complain if a certain romance overshadows the plot at hand, but the authors of this series balance themselves out very well!

Although this first book may take a bit of focus to get through, you'll understand why once you get further into the series. A lot of fantasy worlds have to establish themselves in the reader's minds before we can really grasp the issue at hand, but I had no problem with the build-up of this book.

Accidentally Amy by Lynn Painter

THIS BOOK!!!

Lynn Painter pretty much always hits it out of the park. She's one of my favorite authors of all time for a reason! In this book, we meet some of the most lovable characters and we follow their love story.

We get a little bit of spice, but not too much as to where it interrupts the plot! We still see sweet moments that feel like they could belong in old rom-coms.

Complete with Taylor Swift references around every corner, Accidentally Amy is a must for this sweater season!

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Despite this being a ghost story, this book is so much deeper than that. When I was going through it, I highlighted so many sentences and passages simply because the writing was so descriptive and beautiful. It highlights how the narrator was mistreated and ridiculed perfectly and actually makes you feel for her.

If you like spooky, gothic stories that you can still read at night and not get scared, you'll love this. I usually have a hard time reading classics, but Daphne du Maurier's writing is fairly easy to read compared to other books from this era.

So grab your favorite blanket, make a warm drink, and get comfy in your reading spot. There’s nothing like diving into a good book as the weather cools down. Whether you’re in the mood for a cozy story or a thrilling adventure, there’s plenty to enjoy this season. Happy reading! What’s on your fall reading list? 🍂📚
